PORTABLE ELECTRONICS

Can you bring a portable projector on a plane?

Yes, but pack the projector according to its actual power source. Nebula Capsule 3 Laser and XGIMI MoGo 4 have built-in batteries under 100 Wh. Samsung The Freestyle 2nd Gen can use a separate 115.2 Wh Battery Base, which needs airline approval and must travel in carry-on.

Carry-on baggage

Allowed with conditions

A projector with an installed battery up to 100 Wh can travel in carry-on within the airline bag limits. A separate power bank or battery base stays in carry-on; obtain airline approval for the 115.2 Wh Samsung Battery Base.

Checked baggage

Allowed with conditions

A projector with an installed battery up to 100 Wh may be checked when fully powered off and protected from damage. Do not check a detached battery base, power bank or loose lithium battery.

Portable projector with lens and power accessories
Check the projector and any separate battery base as different items.

WHAT CHANGES THE ANSWER

Find out where the battery is

A projector with a built-in battery and a separate battery base are different baggage cases. “Portable projector” does not by itself mean the projector contains a battery.

Identify your model

Nebula Capsule 3 Laser: built-in battery

Nebula rates the Capsule 3 Laser's built-in battery at 52 Wh and its weight at 950 g. The battery travels with the projector. Any extra power bank is a separate cabin-only battery.

Samsung The Freestyle 2nd Gen: separate battery base

The Freestyle 2nd Gen supports an external USB-PD battery delivering at least 50 W at 20 V. The official Samsung Battery Base VG-FBB3BA is rated 115.2 Wh (8,000 mAh at 14.4 V; Samsung also gives 32,000 mAh at 3.6 V). It exceeds 100 Wh, so get airline approval before travel. Carry a detached base in the cabin with its terminals protected. The projector alone uses external power.

XGIMI MoGo 4 and MoGo 3 Pro: different power setups

MoGo 4 has a 71 Wh built-in battery and can also use a separate 65 W power bank. XGIMI's PowerBase Stand for MoGo 4 is another 72 Wh battery; pack the detachable stand as a power bank.

MoGo 3 Pro uses USB-C external power. Its separate PowerBase Stand is 72 Wh, and XGIMI supports a compatible 65 W USB-C power bank. Check which generation your stand is made for: XGIMI lists separate accessories for MoGo 3 Pro and MoGo 4.

Xiaomi Smart Projector L1: mains adapter

The Xiaomi Smart Projector L1 specification lists a 19 V / 3.79 A input and an included mains adapter. It lists no built-in battery or official battery base. Pack the projector and adapter as a mains-powered device; assess remote batteries or an added power bank separately.

Hisense C1: external power

The Hisense C1 specification lists 100–240 V mains power, 180 W consumption, an included power cable and two AAA cells for the remote. It does not list a built-in battery or official power bank. At 4.6 kg, check the airline's carry-on size and weight limits for this model.

What do the battery figures mean for a US departure?

The FAA allows lithium-ion batteries up to 100 Wh under ordinary conditions; 101–160 Wh requires airline approval. Spare batteries and power banks stay in carry-on with protected terminals. Therefore the 115.2 Wh Samsung Battery Base needs approval, even though the projector alone is externally powered. Compare each battery's Wh rating, not its mAh figure or charger wattage.

BEFORE LEAVING HOME

Before packing the projector

  1. Find out whether the battery is built into the projector, in a detachable stand or in a separate power bank. Check each battery’s Wh rating.
  2. Carry a loose power bank or battery stand in the cabin with protected terminals. Get airline approval in advance for a 101–160 Wh battery.
  3. Fully switch off a projector going in checked baggage and protect its lens and power switch from damage and activation.
